The inner me.

I currently live in Woodside, CA but originally am from Wisconsin.  My father is Norwegian and my mother Sweedish and you likely think there is no real difference between those groups but if you spent a Christmas eve listening to the two families arguing whether meat balls or lutefisk was appropriate for the noon meal, you would know different these groups perceive themselves to be.

Cyndi, my partner of 20 years, and I live high in redwood covered hills with two wonderful kitties.  I start my day careening down the hill avoiding bicyclists and skunks.  I don't resent the skunks.  On the weekends we either careen to Santa Cruz or spend it quietly drinking iced tea on the deck watching the hummingbirds and listening to the roar of motorcycles and the shouting bicyclists.  I don't resent the motorcycles.

I earn my keep as a manager of Information Technologists.  That is: I am a computer geek.  Or at least I hang with geeks.  I've been working with Internet companies pre-millenium and for brick and mortar companies 15 years before that.

My parents continue to live in the old country. One of my sisters moved to the Big City down the road a bit while the other moved to the Big City across the ocean a bit.  Cyndi hails from the Louisville area but sadly she didn't inherit any stills or horses and has to earn a living like the rest of us.  Wait ... she earns a living?  She did spend 6 months supervising contractors remodeling the new place and will now have to spend 6 months recovering.

Unwanted Advice

Let many things pass but be deceived by none

Some Favorite Things

Blindness by Jose Saramago.  A friend said it was the most nihilistic thing he'd ever read ... and I thought it had a Hollywood ending.  Both Blindness and The Cave accurately capture our times and they are not flattering.

Ring of Fire, the Emile Griffith documentary from the USA network.  The last couple of minutes were again a bit too Hollywood, but the rest was great.

Temperature by Sean Paul.  And of course, the translated lyrics.

The Howard Street Coffee Roastery Cafe, which has the two nicest people I know and I love them dearly.

Gabriel Garcia Marquez' book One Hundred Years of Solitude should be read about one year before you read his Love in the Time of Cholera.

The overall tone and in particular Erik Satie's music in the documentary The First World War, which currently can be seen on the History / Military Channel.

The Russian Ridge and all the open space areas of San Mateo

Recognitions by William Gaddis, a novel, when remembered, held in high regard though seldom read.

Out to Lunch by Eric Dolphy.

Suerte, the buff kitty, introduces himself to his newly adopted sister, Lilly.  After about a year of stare-downs and tussles, Suerte proved himself to be the alpha-cat, but just barely.
